『Korean Proverbs and Short Stories』는 2026-10-27 출간 예정입니다. 출간되면 서점 판매 링크와 함께 이메일로 한 번 알려드립니다.
『Korean Proverbs and Short Stories』

Korean Proverbs and Short Stories introduces 60 Korean proverbs to English-speaking learners. A single proverb can hold a whole scene, a custom, and a way of seeing people, and this book uses those proverbs to teach the Korean language and Korean culture together.
The book is organized into 12 themes and 60 chapters. Each chapter presents the proverb in Korean with a literal translation, explains its meaning and use, and brings it to life with an original short story. It then offers key vocabulary and grammar, a short Korean dialogue with an English translation, practice exercises, and a speaking activity. Comparisons with similar English proverbs show where the two languages meet and where they differ.
An introduction covers the myth of Dangun and Korea's long history, a culture of records that produced the world's first metal movable type, the relationship between Korean and Chinese characters, King Sejong's creation of hangul, and the origins of Korean proverbs. At the back you will find an answer key for every exercise and a list of resources for further learning.
For beginner and intermediate learners who can read hangul and want to understand how Koreans really talk, for teachers looking for classroom material, and for anyone curious about Korean culture. No audio or app is required.

Proverbs carry the wisdom that a people have passed back and forth over generations. A dictionary can give their meaning, but it rarely tells you when to use them, with whom, or in what tone. This book sets out to fill that gap.
The author is a Korean language teacher who has spent many years teaching Korean language and culture abroad, including in Brazil. Having seen up close the distance learners feel between textbook sentences and the way Koreans actually speak, he chose 60 proverbs and wrote a new short story for each one, set at work, at school, among neighbors, and between friends. Learners meet the scene where a proverb belongs before they ever memorize it.
Each story is followed by vocabulary, grammar, a short dialogue, and exercises. By combining the pleasure of reading with a clear study structure, the book serves both independent learners and teachers looking for classroom material. Side-by-side comparisons with English proverbs show how two languages can express the same idea through very different images.
The introduction tells the story of Korea from the myth of Dangun, its long tradition of valuing books and records, and the creation of hangul, a script made for ordinary people. Once you know where these sayings come from, each one feels a little closer.
Learning Korean is, in the end, a way of connecting with Korean people. We hope this book serves as a small bridge along the way.
