Every nurse staffing budget carries an unwritten judgment about how much one more nurse is worth. Asked for an optimal staffing level, a general-purpose AI assistant will supply one, whether or not the data can support it. This book gives nurse leaders, health economists, statisticians and policymakers a procedure for finding optimal safe staffing levels in their own data, or establishing that the data cannot give one. It applies Park's Optimized Nurse Staffing (Sweet Spot) Estimation Theory (Journal of Advanced Nursing, 2017), which writes the value of nursing care as quality of care minus cost and seeks a range: from a floor at the inflection of an S-shaped quality curve to a sweet spot where value is greatest. Chapter 6 is an instruction set that makes an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT follow these steps in order, on the reader's own data, and stop where the evidence stops.
