There are many methods in biblical hermeneutics. Among them,

the most fundamental is structural analysis. Without structural analysis, one cannot rightly understand a sentence, and without rightly

understanding the sentence, one cannot rightly interpret Scripture.

No interpretation of Scripture can proceed while ignoring

structural analysis.

Structural analysis is the most basic task of biblical interpretation

and the starting point of all exegesis.

This book is precisely the work that builds that foundation faithfully.

요약

First of all, I give all glory to God, who filled me without lack and in overflowing measure with the faith, the courage, the health, and everything else needed to write this book.

When I asked biblical scholars around me which English Bible they would recommend, many of them pointed me to the YLT (Young's Literal Translation). The reason this version is loved by so many scholars lies in the very word of its title, "Literal." That is, the translator chose this title to signify that the aim of the version is to render the original text of Scripture according to its meaning just as it stands.

Though my own efforts fall short, it was in this same spirit that I undertook a paragraph-by-paragraph syntactical analysis and translation of the Greek text of the twenty-two epistolary books (Romans through Revelation). It is through Scripture, the word of God, that we can know God's will. Yet many sentences in the Epistles cannot be rightly understood without syntactical analysis, and if the sentences are not understood, pastors cannot arrive at a sound interpretation when they interpret Scripture. I have written this book with the desire that, through its publication, many pastors may understand and grasp the biblical text rightly, so that a rightly interpreted word may be proclaimed to the sheep the Lord has entrusted to them.

I have titled this book Qarab Qorban. As for the meaning of these words, "qorban" is a noun meaning "that which is brought near (an offering)," and "qarab" is a verb meaning "to draw near (to offer)." With this sense in mind, I chose the title to express the aim that, through the syntactical analysis in this book, we may grasp the word of the original text well and so move "one step closer to God." This is because "qorban" is thoroughly focused on the matter of "distance."
